For some reason, I have not listened to Sunday Manoa for a while, but today I am. Wow! I had forgotten how good and how innovative they were. And those guys were just babies. Robert Cazimero had such a pure and beautiful voice even back then.
I am listening to Cracked Seed right now. The blooming of talent that has endured. Kind gives me chicken skin.
Take a listen again, it is worth revisiting.

Three Hawaiian music LPs spawned my lifelong love of the oeuvre, and Sunday Manoa "3" was one of them.
(`Alika, you may be too young to be a fan of the Rolling Stones, but listen to how Peter Moon copped the opening line of his arrangement of "Kawika" from the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend The Night Together.")

I love the "Sunday Manoa" cassette tape called Guava Jam. Disovered it at my friends house. I love their rendition of Kawika.

FYI -- that cassette recording is also available on CD.
And "Kawika" can be heard on three of the Sunday Manoa CDs: Meet Palani Vaughan & The Sunday Manoa (the group's debut album) Guava Jam Best of The Sunday Manoa - Vol 1
Great stuff...

No, Bill, of course I know that song! I love the Stones. I'll check that out! BTW, I know someone who has the first three guitar chords of "Start Me Up" as her sound when she signs off, signs on, and sends messages on IM. Sometimes it startles me! |

That "someone" would be me. Just broadening your musical horizons, 'Alika! The Stones rule. |

Yes, Claudia, I knew it was you, but I didn't want to give out your name. That's all. |

Bill's post reminded me of this. For those of you who have myspaces, check out my profile now. I changed my song. It's now "'Ea" by Sudden Rush. They used the intro and "'ea, 'ea, 'ea, 'ea" part from "Kawika" as background music for this rap song about being proud of their Hawaiian routes. |

Bill,
I just looked on mele.com and can't determine which album the version you spoke of is on. Can you tell me, please? |

Same version can be found on both "Guava Jam" and "Best Of... Volume 1."

Sunday Manoa and the Sons sparked the renewal of the Hawaiian music renaissance in the 70's. |

Wow, you're right.
BTW, another song I love that was sung by them as well as the Brothers Caz themselves later on in their career is "The Hawaiian Lullaby." |
