This morning was nice and sunny in Kona, and my wife and I decided it was a good day to get some exercise. I threw on an old "Kahumoku Slack Key Camp" tee and headed down to the Old Airport Beach Park where there is a nice walking track near the ocean.
On my last lap, I slowly overtook a guy walking with his sister. As I walked past, I heard the guy exclaim; "Hey, look! That guy has a Kahumoku shirt on." I stopped and introduced myself. I asked if he was going to camp. He said; "I'm George's brother, Moses". He tells me that he is going to present at least 50 different tunings at Keoki's camp... Whew!
Moral of the story: You never know who or where you may meet another slack key guy... wear your shirt proudly!

I have been a fan of Moses Kahumoku's Slack Key skills ever since I heard "Pohakuloa" on the very first Hawaiian Slack Key Masters CD in 1995. Then later I purchased from George, the George and Moses CD, "Sweet and Sassy" from 1988 -- it is a real keeper. I hope to hear more form Moses again. |

Wow! Moses is out?!!? As Mike said "Sweet and Sassy" is a gem. Anybody know if Moses has any recording plans. Those who go to that Camp: please ask him his plans. With George and Paul being producers, I can bet something should be in the works. He is a treasure.
