Aloha kakou -
October 31 we celebrated Halloween with a part of the Pele and Hi`iaka Saga, Hi`iaka's journey across the Island of Hawai`i, ridding it of dragons and demons. We had a great time, and one of the local schools attended the show - in costume! So as we were slaying demons, the ghouls and goblins were dancing hula in their seats!
I put together a page with the photos Kaori Mitani (GREAT professional photographer) shot: http://www.kaahelehawaii.com/pages/culture_hulakii_Hiiaka.htm
Yesterday, we began our Makahiki series of shows, telling traditional stories and history relating to the Hawaiian New Year.
Our show is each Wednesday at 10:30 am to 11:15 am at the Hilo Palace Theater. Admission is $5 adults, free for children.
Howard Shapiro is our special guest artist next week (November 21), and we are extra excited to host the release party for the Earth Patriot CD in the lobby after the show. If you are in town, please join us for the party as well as the show!
On November 28, Grace Chao, my dear childhood friend and an award-winning dancer, will join us onstage.
December 5 and 12 Stan Kaina and his lovely dancers are our featured guests. You have GOT to see these kupuna ladies dance hula - SO much aloha!
December 12, a very special guest will join me on-stage - my husband, Manu Josiah. With our crazy schedules, we rarely get to perform together, and he has taken time off work to join me in our 2007 season finale.
