Aloha e Al...e Sarah, Mahalo nui loa! Yes, you may ask me questions about my name. My given name(at birth)is Victoria. Many years ago during a very sacred moment on the Island of Hawai'i...Ka'iulani was given to me. At that very moment- ALL was made pono...I knew what I was supposed to do...what the mana wanted from me. When I need to find my place...I go back to that moment in my life. Princess Ka'iulani will always have a special place in my heart and in my life. My husband (Kimo), keiki & I spend as much time as possible on Kaua'i. We have many friends there. When we arrive, our first phone call is to our long time friend (ohana)-Malani Bilyeu. We perform with Malani several times per week. We love him-he is our spiritual brother. Kimo made a radio commercial with him last summer for the Waipouli Beach Resort. My husband composed the music (Slack Key-of course)and Malani wrote the words. It was so wonderful that I choreographed it! I welcome questions...please if you are going to use 'olelo Hawai'i...translate for all the members so that all may benefit from the vast knowledge on this website. So sorry...it is the Kumu in me. Looking forward to so much more... A Hui Hou, Ka'iulani |

Ka`iulani - Welcome to Taro Patch. We would greatly appreciate you sharing your mana`o with us. I appreciate the perspective of a kumu hula on many topics. You may find some interesting topics un "Talk Story" regarding hula, such as whether it is pono to dance to "Hawai`i Aloha" or regarding clothing "How is a malo worn" or about costume/hair/lei for kahiko vs. auana hula.
The greatest thing about this forum is the expertise of so many of the participants. We range from musical experts such as Dennis Kamakahi and Cyril Pahinui to language experts such as Keola Donaghey to hula experts such as Leilehua Yuen and so many less famous but talented and expert folks none the less.
This indeed a great `ohana. We welcome you.
And it is great to find hula getting closer and closer to Cleveland., Please join us for our North Coast Hula Workshop here in Cleveland the weekend of Valentine's Day with Mapuana and Kihei DeSilva. Please see posting under workshops or e-mail me for information. |
Me ke aloha Malama pono, Wanda |
