Aloha e Andy, Mahalo 'ia 'oe no kou aloha nui. I gather you've been to Moloka'i. Our island is slowly changing. Still only one elevator (goes up one floor) and now an automatic door at the Post Office. Soon our first Drive Thru Burger place. aloha |

I've only been to Kaunakakai four or five times, but this is sad news for me.

Welcome to da 'Patch! I've never been to Moloka`i, but I'm related to the folks who used to run the Kaunakakai Groceteria. |

Aloha e Momi, When I first arrived on Moloka'i in 1971, Groceteria was my favorite place to shop. The owner's daughter was in my Second Grade class in Kaunakakai Elementary School. Who are you related to? Small world huh? aloha

Only once a few years back, but I have very fond memories. My wife and I spent a few days filled with great company, ono food and Hawaiian music. Hope to return again someday to take in some of the sights and visit friends. |

Veronica - welcome to Taro Patch. You will find a friendly and helpful bunch of folks here, who willingly share in any way they can.
I invite you to join us in the many discussions going on. We so need to hear mana`o of the folks who live in Hawai`i and deal with issues completely different from those of us who live on the mainland. One of my favorite pieces of Hawaiian music is sung by Clyde "Kindy" Sproat -- "Moloka`i Nui a Hina". Fortunate you are to be there.
Greetings from Cleveland, Ohio, the snowy world for the next 4 or 5 months. |

Aloha kakou, I sincerely appreciate all of your replies. It warms the heart to read mana'o regarding Moloka'i. When we kani ka pila in our garages, we usually sing Moloka'i Nui Ahina and E Hihiwai. All it takes is for one person to start strumming a guitar or ukulele and then the rest of the gang will grab their instruments and join in. Good fun. My garage used to be the place for na pa'ina on our street. My late husband's Moloka'i High School Class of '63 celebrated their Christmas Parties at our home. aloha a hui hou, verna |

Each year, the students of George Kahumoku's Maui Workshop practice a few numbers to play on stage at the annual Maui Slack Key festival. Also each year, George likes to honor one of the islands. Two years ago, we honored Moloka'i and peformed Moloka'i Nui a Hina, Wahine Ilikea and Kaulana Moloka'i with both Wahine and Kane dancers. All of these are very beautiful songs of Moloka'i. And you can guess what color our costumes were! (Of course, I stayed in the back among the musicians)
If I had more time off from work, I would try to visit Moloka'i, probably by going the Keola and Mark's Workshop! But, I WILL visit sormeday regardless!

Aloha, V. I've only been to Moloka`i once, for three days in 1989; a guitarist I play with (here in the Seattle area) gets back there almost every year - he studies and plays with Mr. William Aki, and with all the aunties at Hotel Moloka`i. My co-host on the "Hawai`i Radio Connection" show is a Kamehameha grad from Moloka`i. |
