Do yoooze guyz watch any of the Academy Awards last nite?
For those of us who have worked and/or struggled in Music and Film is was a very nice experience to see that the Movie "Once" took the Oscar for Best Song.
(For the song "Falling Slowly")
Pretty good for a film that only cost $100K and was shot in 17 days.
Of course, I am sure post-production took a lot longer, but still, to see that low-budget independent art can occasionally win was heart-warming.

I thought this was wonderful! That song is infectious. It has been in heavy rotation on my local radio station as well as on VH1. I had no idea it was from a film until last night.
It is great to see simplicity rewarded.
Join me for the history of Hawaiian music and its musicians at Ho`olohe Hou at www.hoolohehou.org.

Yes, and the film gives a pretty good presentation of what it is like to attempt to be an independent producer of your own music, at least in Ireland (not very different from the U.S. - except that they appreciate the arts more in Ireland than here).
I recommend renting the DVD. One of the interesting aspects is that the Actors ARE the musicians and composers involved and the story is semi-autobiographical.
P.S. I did not know that the song was getting any airplay in the U.S. Certainly not on the local stations I listen to and My cable service does not include VH-1.
