Just learned about this today:
Slack key guitarist JOHN KEAWE will be appearing in concert on Saturday, July 5, at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton, WA. His wife, Hope, will be dancing hula as well.
(Time and ticket details coming later.) CORRECTION!
He'll be at the Admiral Theatre in WEST SEATTLE (2343 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116, 206-938-0360) - not Bremerton (just got a note on this from John this evening).

More than subs, Wanda. Bremerton is a HUGE naval yard used for refurbihsment and maintenance of the US Pacific Fleet. It's the home of the carier USS Stennis and the submarines San Francisco & Seawolf. The rest of the subs are north of there at Suquamish and across the Kitsap peninsula at Bangor, where maintenance is done and missiles are handled. I'm not sure where the subs are manufactured - it used to be New London, CT. |

...and John performed at the Admiral Theatre there not too long ago, with Keola Beamer - hence the confusion when he first got the booking (he thought he was returning to the same theatre). |

Good thing he figured it out before he showed up! |

Jack is right. PSNS only does refurb, retro-fitting (is that when they attach Gregg to a ship? Porter becomes Porthole?), or retirement of ships and subs. They don't build anything there.
It is pretty cool when they're moving a sub or especially a aircraft carrier in or out...pretty much goes right past my front window! |

There are no Navy shipbuilding facilities in WA. Our subs are built in New London, CT. Bremerton, WA is a nuclear power repair capable Shipyard. Bangor, WA is a Naval Submarine Base. There is a Naval Station in Everett, WA (ships and Carrier). There is a Navy Reserve Center in Tacoma, WA. There are US Army Maritime Preposition Ships in Tacoma, WA. There is a Navy Weapons Station in Port Angeles, WA. There is a Navy Air Station in Whidbey Island, WA.
If you were in the Navy, on the west coast, chances are you lived in WA for a while. I was not so lucky -- just San Diego, Long Beach, and Pearl Harbor. Although I was CO of a Reserve Unit in Tacoma for two years.

But the important issue (and to get back on topic) is that John and Hope are coming to Washington...... Good for you folks in the Pacific North West. Thanks for the heads-up Gregg |
