Here are the details, in one post, for this SF Bay Area gathering of the Northern California Slack Key Society.

March 9th, 1PM

Kaleo Café
1340 Irving St.; (one block South of Golden Gate Park; Lincoln Way)
San Francisco
415.753.2460

Here's the café's link:
http://www.kaleocafe.com/index_ns.htm

A map to the café.

Their menu link:
http://www.kaleocafe.com/menu.htm

Some of us will be there earlier for some lunch, so come earlier if you like.
I'd like to suggest people bring a portable chair(not to the café) in case it's warm outside and we decide to head for the park later-on in the day.

March 9 in San Francisco? In addition to the chair, bring a fur coat and earmuffs. Not for the music, but for the cold.....brrr,brrr

Hey you picked a great date. Mar. 9th is my birthday. Have a piece of Coco-Mac Haupia Pie for me, okay?

Sounds like you all are going to have a great time.

Oh Julie, I think we'll get little sympathy for our chilly 70 degree sunny "Winter" days!
It's all relative, yeah?
I moved back here from Oregon last year, and today in NorCal is like a Summer day in Oregon. In the twenties this week up there.

Besides, those shivers make for a good tremolo effect!

Ross

Hey Andy, how many candles for your pie?

Can you play slack key with mittens?!

Bring your old, unwanted guitars...you can burn 'em for warmth

Craig
My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

Boy, you're posts sure tell a lot about this group. Last time I was involved in a group session in SF that talk was about who was bringing which drugs. I guess that was a few years ago.

That would be 31 candles. Thanks for asking. Don't eat that pie too fast now!

Aloha,
I just returned from the Kaleo cafe where I spoke to David Alfiche, the owner. We are a go for March 9th at 1pm. He thought it was a fine idea although he will not be in attendance since he has a practice with a local hula group on Sundays. I will email him soon to confirm the arrangements. It looks like the upstairs loft will be large enough for the expected turnout. I look forward to seeing you all on March 9th. Sulle'

Raymond, the drugs I am most familiar with now are Advil and Vioxx. Maybe some Chardonnay... Creak. Is that what you meant? Julie

Aloha,
I received a confirmation email from David Alfiche regarding our March 9th get together. He has even put us on the March calender of events. Although not on the website as yet, it reads as follows "slack key kanikapila Come listen to the sounds of our local Bay Area slack key players as they have a jam session in our loft". I hope that some of you better players (Fran?,etc.) will be in good form and not mind having local slack key fans drop by for coffee and some free music. Should be a good time. Jerry

OK - so how much room does this "loft" have??

Cynthia and I will probably be coming but we might
have to leave early as the San Jose Uke academy is
have rehearsal for the Northern California Uke
Festival on the same day.

If you don't know about the Uke festival.. you should!
It is the best way to spend most of a Sunday in April
- for only $5.00!. Each band gets 10min to play, with
a 5 min changeover time, and at least one member of
each band must play an Uke (or at least appear to play
an Uke ) on at least one song. 20 plus bands
play each time, and usually Ka Ehu Kai ends the show.

Lawrence,
The loft is big enough for the seven or so people who plan to be there. If the turnout gets bigger we will just move downstairs. All are welcome. Aloha, Jerry

Is this kanikapila strictly limited to slack key guitar? I love the old Hawaiian songs and can play along sometimes, but on my uke. On the guitar I am strictly the perpetual beginner. Can do a turn-around now. So should I consider coming to SF on Sunday?

Aloha from the gorgeous redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains, Julie
