To honor the arrival of spring, and because I'll be busy cleaning house & cooking for `ohana to come over on this Easter holiday, I am posting some You Tube stuff to give you some tidbits to watch.
The first is from 1986 BOH Kiho`alu festival. It features Uncle Raymond Kane, George Kuo and Milton Lau doing "Pauoa Liko ka Lehua". Oh, talk about some beautiful guitar playing with Uncle Raymond's beautiful stylings and George wonderfully supporting Uncle, it gives chicken skin. Contract the smooth guitar playing with Uncle's gravelly voice singing the lyrics. Wow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqvguyBLpG4
Keonepax doing "Pu`u Anahulu" so nicely, both singing and `ukulele.. And a beautiful Hawaiian quilt in the back ground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLI69qFHmZs
A Beach Boys tribute band. Pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0K0F9GfFh0
Mahela & Marlene Sai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBbfUoKaGEU
Mighty J at Keauhou-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs5CKDUEERY
This one will blow you AWAY!!!! Mike Keale doing "E Ku`u Morning Dew" from Night Time with Andy Bumatai. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieb-6_G6mdQ&feature=related
Cyril Pahinui on Night Time with Andy Bumatai doing He`eia. WOW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jprtrh4_VkM This is talk story portion. Like 'andy said to Cyril, tell the young kids to try play music with one guitar, one voice. Cyril is so good at that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_KsuKf7wGQ&feature=related
Tsunami Wave Riders - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_z7rOQzBt0
Here's one for Thumbstruck - Edelweiss done on `ukulele. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXPAJh07sv8
Jasmine Trias - Excuses - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIb0vF5TRAA
A great video about Ryan Kamakakehau Fernandez. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT2DXpW3BYo It is MOST excellent. He seems like such a nice young man, and who who truly sings from the heart. Question: what do you think of the fact that many people first comment on the fact that he is black and act very surprised to find out he sings falsetto. Seems to me it should not be done. No different than actiing surprised if an Hawaiian sings in English and someone says, but you are Hawaiian. Double standard?

Hmm. Interesting question, Wanda. I don't have an answer for you as I've never had the ability to see what people look like. Even if I did, I think I would still respect people for who they are on the inside, just as I always have. |

'Alika- this is one area for certain where you have an advantage over people with sight. You see people the right way. |
