What a lot of fun to see Patrick playing with the master, Mr. Cyril Pahinui. The venue is a temporary space for the Sweetwater Inn, a legendary Marin County venue, and they sold out or got very close. Both guys were in fine form, and the show was a generous length, over two and a half hours. There were lots of familiar faces from classes with Patrick and from other Hawaiian shows. What a fine way to spend an evening.

Ha! Auntie Nancy and the "famous" snoring song! Great seeing you last night Fran and weigh da go on the weight loss, what a GREAT venue! Ed you have to make sure she makes those goddies because they are "onolicious"...I would sneak away between workshops and grab some of the poke and haupia...it was delicious along with those homemade cookies from the cookie man!!! To much good food!

Tonite is Little Fox! Hope to see everyone there tonite!

OK, now I wanna know about Fran's weight loss! I always thought he was perfect!

So Patrick, it was really very nice to see you perform again, and Cyril was wonderful as always, and then there is Patti Maxine! Great of you to invite her on stage. I think that steel guitar adds such a phenomenal dimension to Hawaiian music, and I found the whole evening to be a wonderland of sounds, sights and memories.

Sorry I could not get out of the office in time to decorate your stage. I think you musicians look so good on stage and my plants really like to come out and show off and shine in front of audiences. My plants and I have long conversations about my expectations for them... Usually they preen and position there on stage, and they all love going for a ride in my car, AND they get a good long drink before being put back in their place.

Isn't life wonderful?

Julie

One of the sweetest songs I have ever heard is when Patrick and his Mom do "Kaula `Ili" on his Pu'unaue "to share" CD. The cello makes it so beautiful and tugs at your heart strings. Patrick's Mom's voice ranks right up there with Lorna Lim. If you go to his web site, the sample does not play long enough to hear Mom, but if he is selling the CD at his shows, you guys better buy one! It is a GEM!!! Just like Patrick is a gem. He is the best teacher of slack key. And talks good story. And plays good guitar. And sings good. And has a good heart.

Patrick, honey, can you tell Aunty Wanda loves you?

PS: His Christmas CD is top notch, too. Even our haole relatives over here love his version of the Hula Hoop Song. Oh, and his Silent Night is amazing. Buy that, too.

Hey you guys -- what songs did they play? Any jamming together of Patrick and Cyril? Anyone else on the show? Who did hula? etc., etc., etc.

PS: Patrick is one pretty swell cook, as all those folks in Elkins, WV can tell you. Mix Patrick with Cajuns -- get lots of food.

Don't worry, Julie, it's around here somewhere, I'm sure I'll find it again.

At the Larkspur show they did indeed jam. They got into a couple of jams too, but got out again with only minor paint scrapes <grin>. Looks like Uncle Cyril has been showing Nephew Patrick some D tuning stuff in between "Family Feud."

Cyril did several of my big faves: "Hula O Makee," "Nani Ka`ala," and "Makee Ailana" among many others. Patrick opened with a couple of 22 song medleys!!! And together they did Patrick's tribute to that lovely Italian Hawaiian lady, Moana Lisa.
