Hello everybody!
I'm relatively new to Hawaiian music and slack key guitar. About a year ago I bought a couple Sol Hoopie, Sam Ku West, Ledward Kaapana, and Bob Brozman discs. What got me started was the Bob Brozman instructional dvd on Hawaiian lap steel and I've been hooked ever since. I recently sold my squareneck dobro and have a Lazy River weissenborn in the making all due to my new-found love of this music.
Also, I just bought the instructional book on slack key guitar by Ozzie Kotani and look forward to learning the basics of playing this music on my slope shouldered dread. This forum looks really nice and I look forward to getting to know some of the folks here.

Well, since registering I've spent a couple hours looking through the older threads and have already learned quite a bit. There is so much to be learned here! I forgot to mention in my first post that I also bought a uke last year which has brought much enjoyment. |

Don't sell the dulcimer. And never sell a guitar, unless you're replacing it with a better one. Welcome to the 'Patch. Does Steam-Powered refer to an Aeroplane? Paul |

E komo mai, Steam Powered. Must be hot stuff, eh? Welcome to Taro Patch. You appear to be a person of many talents - steel, dulcimer, `ukulele, etc., etc. Very impressive. This Taro Patch has folks who are experts on just about any topic you can think of, and they are all so kind and generous in sharing their knowledge and talents with the rest of us. This is a place of aloha. We welcome you to it.

Yep, sure does!
And yes, all of my current instruments get lots of use and are definately staying put. I sold a couple guitars a few months ago to fund the Lazy River weissenborn. I certainly love my mountain dulcimer greatly as it brings back many fond memories of visiting the McSpadden shop where I spent hours figuring out which wood combo sounded best to my ears (settled on all walnut). Since the Lazy River will likely stay in open D, I'm contemplating having the good folks at National make me a squareneck tricone to keep in open G. Within a few months I intend to sell the Hamano Soprano to fund a nice high-end uke. When that day comes I'm sure some folks here can help me decide which one to get! |
