Well, I've kept my flat-top in DADGAD and open D for a long time and have used John Pearse "new mediums". Now that I've put her into taropatch tuning I notice that the fifth string is a wee bit flabbier, so I've switched from a .042 to a .045 to even out the tension moving down two half-steps from A to G.
This got my thinking about something I didn't see on any of the threads here (at least not in the thread titles: What is your favorite brand of strings and gauges? Just curious. I'm not about to switch as I've tried many different gauges and brands and John Pearse sound the best to my ear, but I'm always curious what folks have on their guitars.
Here's my new set for taropatch: 13, 17, 24, 32, 45, 55 (same as I used for DADGAD and open D but with the heavier fifth string).

Your string choices are pretty good, and, if they sound and feel good to you, that is all that counts. This has been said many times before here. Perhaps, the reason that you didn't find anything here about the topic is that you didn't check the "Archives" box when you searched. Try it.

Ahh... I didn't see the option (the box to be marked) for checking the archives before. Thanks, now I have many hours of things to check out. This forum is fantastic! |
