See you on Tuesday, May 13 at:
Mission City Coffee Roasting Co,
2221 The Alameda, in Santa Clara

Take The Alameda, north, off of 880 and it's about two long blocks on your left (just before the Alameda makes the big swing around Santa Clara University)

Signups, as always, will be at 6:30 PM and the first act will be at 7:15.

Thank you once again to Mission City, Thriving Artist's and Sun Jose Hawai`i for sponsoring this event, and especially to those of you who continue to share your music.

Mahalo nui,

dog

I would like to encourage folks who never played at open mic to come and play at least one song.

When I began the SB open mic some years ago, my main purpose was to create a place with a supportive atmosphere in which we can grow as musicians. Playing before an audience is one of the best ways to move your playing up a notch or two. For many of us, playing at the open mic was one of the first times, if not THE first time we played for an audience. All of us have grown tremendously as performers and musicians. So ... please, please come and play a song. Don't worry if it's from Ozzie's book, or any other primer, or your own piece. Do yourself, and us, the favor now, while we still have the open mic venue.

Boy oh boy,

What a great crowd tonight! I felt almost as if I were back in Hawai'i, surrounded by all my friends from music workshops. It was so enjoyable, it was difficult to leave...

Big Dog, thanks so very much for continuing this venue. It is such a pleasure to come in and see all these friendly and dear faces, I wanted you to know that you are da best!

Aloha nui loa and big hugs,

Julie

Julie, youʻre so sweet. Mahalo. I loved your performance. The upright bass with `ukulele and vocals was awesome.

Yes, it was a fun night. We havenʻt seen Kapua in a while. That was special. So was Cynthia and Lawrence, with bass backup by Art. ( I want that Breedlove bass). It was the first time in over a year that my playing partner, Mark Lennon, was able to make it. That was fun. Sil and the gang were excellent, as always. Plus, Sil slacked ʻem up, Brah! Thanks to Doug for a great set, backing up the Kams, and getting the words to Waimanalo Blues to Sil, in the nick of time. Honokawai Pete, best set yet.

WOW, best night in a long time. See ya next month.

Slackdog

PS: Special thanks to Annie for the beautiful quilt makana. Love you, Sweetie!!!!

Yes,

I want to say that Honokawai Pete's compositions were superb. There was a lot of feeling in there, and they came out as very thought-provoking. Way to go! I love your gentle side!

Cynthia and Lawrence, you've been practicing and I was bowled over by your vocals. Can't wait to get to Maui so we can play together under the moon on the beach. At least until the hotel's sprinklers come on and we have to bail!

Sil, great to see you, I just had to rib you about signing up on THE VERY LAST SPOT on the board!

Art, Ray, Doug, Dave and Mark, all of you, you made my night...

Dog, when you're ready to buy your next bass, I know a great luthier in Santa Cruz! 4 string, 5 string, whateva.

Julie
