We got our IRS $$$ this week. It is nice to have the dough, but I am not sure how stimulating of the economy it will be. For instance, one of our daughters will be paying off dentist bills with it. We are going to buy ono grinz in Hawai`i -- maybe can afford to go to Chai's twice -- once for Jerry Santos and once for Bros. Cazimero. But we woulda been buying grinz on O`ahu anyhow, rebate dough or no rebate dough.

What do you guys think about the "stimulus" part of it? If I am not too niele, may I inquire as to plans any of you guys may have for the dough? Just curious. Some people plan to splurge on a little something they normally would not have; others are going to pay some bills with it. Others may put it in the bank or in a mason jar buried in the back yard. Or there may be some small stock deals or mutual funds to invest in.

Hey - Alana -- there is the kala you need for buying an `ukulele.

My wife and I decided that we'd split it down the middle and use it any way we like.....sort of a "bonus", even though they're just giving us back a teeny bit of the money we gave them in the first place! Mine will probably go to some tools and/or wood to support my woodworking habit and knowing my wife, she'll probably spend it on the grandkids.

Aloha,
John A.

I think it's nice to get the rebate, but tough to make an impact with rising costs of food and gas.

You must have low numbers for the last four digits of your ss#. Unfortunately mine start with 98 so I have to wait another month or so. I get burned anyway, because the thousands I pay in "self employment" taxes don't count, so I only get the minimum rebate.

If you have any debt, be smart and use the money to reduce it- especially high interest debt like credit card debt. It does less to stimulate the economy, but far more to put yourself in a better economic situation in what could become very tough times. Besides, the less stimulation this provides, the greater the chance that Congress will send out another round of checks!

Going to contribute all of it to charitable causes of which the present occupant of the White House is not a fan. Seriously. Might even do so in his honor.

If the Dems didn't tax everything in sight we might not be in the mess we're in.

Democrats, Republicans- they all favor spending trillions of dollars, there are really only two differences.

Democrats say pay for it now, Republicans say let our children pay for it.

Democrats say tax everyone, Republicans say tax the working class.

The other day I heard on NPR that McCain was angry because he had to pay $4000 because of the AMT. The AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) kicks in when a couple makes over $150,000 in taxable income that is not otherwise subject to tax. This is what Clinton refers to as the "middle class". Anyway, McCain is pissed about having to pay $4000 and wants to eliminate the AMT. When I think about how rich he is, and how much tax I have to pay, his attitude infuriates me. And he wants "another 100 years" of this war that has already cost the average American household $40,000, plus wants to "bomb, bomb Iran"- a country ten times the size of Iraq. But he sure isn't willing to pay for it! The fighting and the paying will be the responsibility of the "lower" classes, while the wealthy provide the rhetoric and get the fat contracts. And if you don't like it, you are "unpatriotic".

Are we really going to take this? Go Obama!

(Born in Hawai'i, welfare mom, graduated from Punahou on a scholarship- vote da Hawai'i boy for president this time! Not the usual rich b*****ds! Let's see some Aloha in the White House for a change!)

What a joke...Enjoy it if you are able. Me? I gotta use it to buy gas (Pukalani, Maui $4.23.9). Question...What is it ALWAYS point 9...never point 3, or point 6, or point 2. ALWAYS POINT NINE!
`Au we!

You ain't hearing me gripe about the economic stimulus, Duke. That's what I'm going to use to buy you some malasadas next week.

But why is Hawai`i giving you a dollar? That sounds absolutely ludicrous.

No, I wouldnt gripe. Life's too short to gripe. If it were not for this "stimulus", we wouldn't have gotten $1,200. We still had to pay the same amount of taxes, whether they gave us a rebate or not. I'm happy to have some of our own money back. When I worked for the feds, I payed plenty kala toward my own salary in income tax.

Whether we gripe or not, gas is still expensive, but not a darn thing we can do about it. No use getting ulcers or heart attack from griping about it. Whether we gripe or not, food getting more expensive. Can eat like West Viriginia poor folks. Eat pinto beans every day and meat only on Sunday. But no use griping, it might give you ulcers or a heart attack. Can play Harmony cheap guitar instead of Taylor or Martin. What?? You gripe about that????
