There are a few of us diehards who like to continue playing long after normal people have gone to bed. You know, it is the ambience, all the wonderful music we've made all day, and all the wonderful people we're with, who wants to go to sleep at night?
So some of us tend to gravitate to the beach "after hours" to continue the mayhem. Trouble is, it is dark, there is no light but that moon, and we can't read the music nor the words. I would like to see if we can't pick out several of our favorite songs each, and share those with others who are likely to show up at the beach at midnight or so. If we all practiced these songs ahead of time, we could actually play them in the dark, on that beach, and it would be so much nicer than trying to read the music by flashlights, etc. Once more, with feeling! Any takers?
Aloha,
Julie

Aloha e, Julie! Pehea 'oe?
Remember the jam at lark camp with Kevin and Mark them? Kevin - a truely masterful player who has pretty much every single song memorized - said he no can play unless he can see the dots on his guitar neck.
I had a clip-on book light that I attached to the head of his guitar, and that worked ok (he used it at AMC for the 'campfire jam', also).
Just a thought...keeps your hands free and gives you light. |

For the astronomically minded, moonlight should be fine for George's camp (full on 6/18) but by the time AMC rolls around, the waning gibbous moon rises at about 11pm on Monday and gets later and smaller every day until by Friday there is only a measly crescent that doesn't rise until about 12:45am. (And remember, the moon will be rising behind the mountains and therefore will take a while to get high enough to be seen, let alone provide useful illumination.) So advance prep and booklights might both be a good thing. |

I still like Julie's idea about having songs ready for the dark. How about Pua Lilia and Pua Tuberose for a start? |

Unless somebody suddenly lights-up or shines some kind of flashlight or something, it is real easy to see in the darkness once your eyes become accustomed to it. |

Well,
For starters, we could hone in on the flower songs: Pua Lilia, Pua Tuberose, Pua Mana, Pua Lililehua, Pua Olena. that's 5.
Other favorites, such as Blue Hawaiian Moonlight, are easy to remember. I'll start a list and if anyone is interested, I can email the words and ukulele chords to others who might need them. Guitar players are on their own but if you know the chords you can always embellish.
Aloha, Julie

Aloha kakou,
Because I'm running out of time (what's new?), instead of emailing everyone some of the songs I have available, I will be bringing copies to camp. I will make copies when I get to Kahului, and hope to have enough for every person who wants one. Also, bring your He Mele book if you have one.
Looking forward to playing with everyone...
