Depending on the size of your fingers, you'll typically get one size for your thumb and the next size down for your fingers. (They have a sizing chart on their web site.) For example, I use XL for my thumb and L for my fingers. Order a few extras so you can experiment with clipping and shaping to fit.
As for wearing out and breaking, it depends on how much you play. 6 months to a year of playing for Dusty is like decades for some people! |

Yeah, I play a lot.
It should probably be mentioned that you need some fingernails for the Alaska Piks to stay on your fingers.

As little as 3/16" will work. |

nah I had all sizes they either fell off (too big) or they made my fingers turn blue (too small) --noinbetween--
Then when I trimmed them according to the pictures, I couldn't keep them in place. I think I gave all I had left to Dusty.

I highly recommend alaska piks. They seem to stay on my fingers fine, even with only 1/16 inch of nail showing. The rare times when I play in public, I have put them on with masking tape around each one (like a band-aid on your finger). It just makes me feel more secure. I use an XL on my thumb and L on my index, middle and ring fingers. I had an M once that did turn my finger blue. But the L works great. Of course using one on the thumb kind of changes your geometry a little. I don't think I could mute with my palm and still play thumb notes, which you can do with a more traditional thumb pick. But if your background is more classical guitar, they are great. LRR |

By myself, I play bare fingered. In a group, I use picks (Golden Gate thumbpick, Dunlop light guage brass finger picks bent over the top of the fingers ala Earl Scruggs.) Play clean, have fun, sound like yourself. |

OK I've avoided this subject cause it looked nasty. But now that I read it not so bad. I don't use picks but I play a uke. Once however I saw Ledward up here in Seattle and he had these nasty looking things on his fingers!!! He played the uke with them(quite nicely actually). I thought maybe he was in a cock fight but no he was just playing some great uke. |

If you put any fingers on the G-string,won't the bouncer toss you out? Those cats can get huhu wikiwiki. Paul |

I gave the alaska picks a try the other day. Didn't buy them because they wouldn't stay on my fingers (I cut my nails all the way down and you need a little bit of nail for them to stay on). Oh well, if I ever need more volume, I can always use my metal fingerpicks and golden gate thumbpick.
I'm just happy to hear that I'm not the only one who likes the sound of bare flesh on strings. |
