Here is a way swell video from 1982 of Martin and Cyril Pahinui singing Mauna Loa along with Peter Moon on `ukulele and some oddah guy playing the ipu. I do not know who da oddah guy is.
But this is a very precious film to watch. 1. Martin has hair. Lots of it. 2. Martin's voice is about as beautiful as it could get. 3. We hear Cyril, of all people, singing falsetto 4. It sounds almost like No`eau's version. Did they copy from you Braddah Al?
I think maybe it was filmed at the Pahinui home. Looks like the same place as that video of Gabby dem.
Can anyone please tell me who the ipu guy is?
Peter Moon no sing???

Yeah - cause I'm lazy. "Wanda" = 5 letters ... "Ma" = 2 letters. Less typing.
I'd just call you "W" - but someone else has laid claim to that one for the past few years. |

You see Ma, you thought I was one young whippasnappah. But why? I tink it might be how my fantabulous writing skills reflect da person inside of me, and not by how da digits on my driver's license really rat my age out to be. Inada words, I always going be youngah den you inside, because I'm sort of living on borrowed time right now (from pre-WRP) and life is jahs too shawt to be living it any oddah way.
By da way Ma, I jahs remembered dat "living on borrowed time" could also apply to you too, yeah? How soon we forget. Come, we go eat some of your buttah mochi.
Also, if you neva see da movie "The Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, try go rent da buggah. Da story portrays jahs what I'm talking about. And no foget bring kleenex too. |

Braddah Ed - you almost make me weep. Yep, I am living on borrowed time. But I am working very hard so I don't have to give it back. I feel really weird when I think that I am older now than my mother ever was.
And funny ting, that Bucket List movie was on the airplane on the way over to Hawai`i. But I am not living my life as just a series of tasks to be checked off a list. You miss too much that way. Sometimes mo bettah to just sit and listen to the birds sing, listen as the trees dance to the waltz of the wind.
But anyhow - ain't Martin one sweet singah? |
