I've written a new song which is currently titled "Pajarito de la madrugada." (I very frequently title my work with Spanish titles because I love the sound of the language, and love to read poetry in Spanish.) I would like to title this piece with an Hawaiian equivalent. Can anyone help with a poetic way of saying "Little bird of the morning?"
Mahala nui.

Raymond-

I would have said something close to what Jesse suggested, except maybe no `okina before the "O" and add a "Ke" before "Kakahiaka."

Sometimes I worry that a literal translation might not be idiomatic or might sound out of place in song or poetry. That's when I try to compare to songs I already know, to see if a native speaker might have used a similar construction.

If it's any help as comparison, here is the last verse of "Ku`u Ipo Pua Rose" by Johnny Almeida:

Puana ka ina inoa o ku`u lei
Lei aloha o ke kakahiaka

Mary Kawena Pukui translates this as:

This ends the song for my loved one
My beloved one of the morning.

Hope this helps.
