Hi Wanda,
Mahalo for your nice comments--I'm glad someone reads my posts! I tried to capture the festival experience from a "slack key guitarist crashing an 'ukulele party" perspective . I wish more of my Bay Area musician friends could have attended--they would have had a blast.
Aloha,
Doug |

I know Konabob posted this link in another thread, but in case no one makes the connection:

I think all you taropatchers should know that the last time I saw Ralph Shaw (the man with the bowler hat, bow tie and tuxedo), he was crammed into Susi Kagami's RAV-4 along with Keoki Kahumoku, Susie Kagami, Herb Ohta, Jr., and all their luggage--with Keoki's guitar strapped to the top. I figured Ralph would be talking Hawaiian by the time they got to the airport. But as they pulled away from the curb, they all started yodeling. What a hoot! I miss them all already.

It was certainly a wonderful and unforgettable weekend. We wanted to send out a big MAHALO to everyone who had attended, performed, volunteered and participated in this great event.
Special Thank You's, Photos, YouTube links, Acknowledgments, Recaps and details of the event can be found on www.HawaiiMusicLive.com.
It was a very special weekend for many of us. From Ralph Shaw's performance at the Farmer's Market, to Keoki Kahumoku's Cooking Class, with over 10 extremely talented instructors giving over 20 ukulele and Hawaiian culture workshops on Saturday including Kimo Hussey, Liko Puha, Mike DaSilva, Herb Ohta, Jr., James Hill, KonaBob, Mark Nelson, Robyn Kneuuhl and Keoki Kahumoku, the outdoor ukulele, food and gift item vendors and generous Ukulele sponsors, The Luau and performance by Robyn Kneubuhl and friends, all day free Festival Stage performances, and the unforgettable evening performances by Ralph, James, Keoki, and Herb Ohta, Jr...it was a very memorable 2 days.
The festival was a re-connecting with old friends and a connection with new ones, a chance to see the variety of ukulele and accessories available, and all in all, a celebration of the ukulele and what this tiny instrument is capable of. EVERYONE who was there had such a special part in this celebration, so thank you so much.

I fixed the link. If there is a period at the end of the link, it won't work. The work around is to use the [ url ] link here [/ url ] tags. (Of course, without the spaces.) |

This is my first post to taropatch. I'm "surferukegal" here, but I'm the "ukegal" that elaine referred to. I guess both Elaine and Susie found my blog referenced above. I had a wonderful time and it was a great escape from the rest of my currently crazy life. So MAHALO to all for an awesome event! |

Hi all!
Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. The festival was certainly a big hit with me. I liked the fact that it was workshop centered rather than performance centered. It's a niche that really is underrepresented. I took my student with me and we had a really great time! Uncle Kimo's workshop I think worked well.
Aloha,
Curtis |
