I just went to the web site and all of the CDs have been sold.
I am on the wait list.
Great job, the clips sound great.

To Wanda and Les.
Thanks for the purchase. Premier release is for tomorrow at 19th annual Hawaiian Music Festival in Hilo, Hawaii. I got the 5:15p.m. slot on the program in case you all are in town. CDBaby sold out quickly. More were shipped to them today I was told.

A note of history: It was this taropatch website that motivated the project, first the book then the CD. Some of the ukers here were discussing the topic of playing slack key tunes on the 'ukulele. I think it was aout a year and a half ago. A guitar player jumped in and said you guys are crazy, you cannot play slack key on the 'ukulele, only the guitar. So I put my two cents in having played slack key 'ukulele for over 50 years. Not to mention that nobody told Peter Moon he can't play slack key on his uku when he was part of the kanikapila with Gabby Pahinui in Waimanalo.

If you did not check out the 'ukulele slack key book as yet go to http://outskirtspress.com/webpage.php?isbn=9781432706258

Enjoy and aloha, Uncle Dave

Hi Uncle Dave:
Yes I have a copy of your book.
I have been slowly working on My Yellow Ginger Lei.
But I am not coordinated enough to get all of the
fingering clean on my Kamaka soprano.
That's why I emailed you about getting a new ukulele.
Aloha,
Les

Aloha Les.
You want a new uku for more fret spacing? Like tenor or baritone? If yes, then get a cheap one. Remember the baritone is tuned different but the slack key tablature is the same. But you don't want to invest in a high end uku and find out later that you do only five songs in slacked tuning with an $800 Kamaka. But then again if you saw my YouTube "Stay Slacked - Why Retune" You can play a tone of standard progressions with the compensation chords in the Appendix.

Email me for any questions - use the email in the book.

Aloha no kakou

Aloha Uncle Dave:
I got your CD in the mail yesterday. I will check it out this evening.
I wish I could find an $800 tenor Kamaka.
I am looking at lower cost Kala ukuleles.
They have a mango tenor and a koa tenor.
What do you think about them, since you don't have any for sale.
Mahalo,
Les

I guess nobody has ever told Ledward Kaapana that he can't play slack key ukulele, either. Not that he would ever listen to anyone who told him that something couldn't be done with anything that has strings on it.

I struggled with the concept myself. I'm over it now. Open tuning is cool whatever you call it.

What made me place the earlier post about Led Kaapana was, I guess, caused by the anticipation of seeing him this evening along with Fran Guidrey and Mike Kaawa. I asked Led between sets if he could play some slack key ukulele, and he obliged by playing 'Opihi Moemoe. When I thanked him later he laughed and said anything you can play on the "Geetah" you can play on the uke. Led is just amazing.

Led is for reals brah. So is Mike and Fran. But Led is exceptional, the total package musically, vocally and genetically. He is a slack key kahuna and a living legend. He would probably chuckle to read this. But it's true.

It was 1959 and someone who played well said "E listen to dis" And he dropped the A string to G and said this song is "Slack key in C". So its been around a long time. When it comes to music no mo categories li'dat jus music on whatevah is being played on at the time.
