Members of the Pahinui 'Ohana recall Pops Gabby Pahinui on the eve of their Gabby Pahinui Waimānalo Kanikapila. In program No. 121, they introduce Peter Moon, 18-year-old son of Hawaiian music legend Peter Moon, leader of the original Sunday Mānoa.

I really enjoyed watching last night's edition. Lots of laughs and personal insights into Gabby Pahinui and members of his 'ohana.

Not yet, but according to a friend whose name is listed in the roll of credits at the end of the show, they soon will be. |

Last chance reminder to catch Part 1 (Ho'oulu Lahui Aloha #120) of this two-part "Remembering Gabby Pahinui" program tonight at 7pm Hawai'i time on NATV 53 Livestream.
Part 2 (Ho'oulu Lahui Aloha #121) will be shown July 31st and August 6th.
If you can, it might be best to set up two computers so you can also experience Willie K on Pakele Live starting at 6pm Hawai'i time. |

A tech note for Windows users: I was getting strange color/resolution with my XP/Media Player 9 combination, but they went away when I (reluctantly) upgraded to MP 11. "Reception" is quite decent via a DSL connection. Now if the 7-hour time difference could be collapsed. . . .

Just in case I encounter a technical or metabolic glitch (for example, should I doze off before 2 a.m.)--if anyone in Hawai`i manages to record the program tonight, I would gladly negotiate a copy on DVD or VHS or any format short of direct brain-scan. (My neurological duplicator is in the shop.) And so the list of thank-yous on my Acknowledgments page grows and grows.

Brah, da audio was jam up in Part 1 too. I don't think they put da body mic on Palani Vaughn correctly. Seems like every time he rested his left hand on his pants you could hear loud rustling noises and also loud pops once in a while too.
But odda den dat, I really enjoyed da show. And dat Peter Moon Jr. Brah, da boy is only 18 years old and yet I could tell that he got the attention and respect of all of those in that room when he said that he knows that he will never be as good a musician as his dad was, and therefore he doesn't even want to compare himself with him or even consider da concept of himself being in his dad's shadow or trying to fill his shoes. You gotta respect da kid for wanting to be his own person and wanting people to acknowledge Peter Moon Jr. for just being himself. And I also got da feeling that if he never became as well known or a celebrity like his dad was, he could really care less about that too. He said that he is and will always be a student, which when he said that you could tell that Martin Pahinui really took those words to heart and was really impressed wit da kid.
Da next generation coming up going be really interesting to watch as they come into their own while old timahs like us guys going be watching dem from owah nursing homes. |

The second showing of Part 2 will actually be on Thursday, August 7th. The date has also been corrected on OHA's website. |

Brah I can imagine how hahd it is fo be da son of one famous faddah. I think dat may be one of da reasons Cyril embrace dis kid.Cyril & Bla went chru da high expectation thing. For a while dey had some resentment because dey were chraiying fo establish dey own sound & celebrity.Imagine da burden of people always saying "You play & sing like Gabby" I heard dat it really wen boddah Cyril. How about Bla? "Hacome you no play & sing like Gabby?" different angle but same burden of expectation.Peter Boy get da right approach. But wat about Martin's son who he named Gabby?
