I think this is sort of a review...I probably mis-posted this. Sorry. But we have many reviews to brush upon.
My wife and are from the Bay Area - having met some of you at the La Honda Festivals and such events. We are in our third month of spending the summer on the Big Island and having a very musical time.
This is coming from Waikoloa Village, Hawaii, Big Island. A while back, we were going to the local church celebration in Waikoloa - the church is open for 25 years now. Who was the guest musician but John Keawe. He did a nice little set as part of the bigger deal. Thanks to John for helping our little village! Good fun music hula and fellowship was shared by all. Cool
Our Ukulele group (you might call us Auntie Margie's Waikoloa Ukulele Club) got invited to play the fund raiser at the local school - they are trying to get playground equipment. Hmm, that is something we might take for granted on the ML. Our group of 10 played for about 1/2 an hour and closed the whole show with "Hawaii Aloha," of course. I can tell you that the performers had fun. We think the kids did, too.
Although we are missing the Bay Area Aloha Festival, we made our own festival here. On Friday my wife and I went back to the school to play for a couple of the classes. The kids responded really well and a teacher asked if we were the new music program. Well, maybe we are. Maybe you could be too in your community. As schools cut programs, I know many uke players who could share a little aloha by visiting the kids... Just an idea.
Well this all evolved into a block party by Saturday evening. At the peek, there were multiple jam circles and the music went well into the night.
Later that night we were hiking on the golf course - they are not just for golfing you know. We got a major shooting star. It took the whole sky to to hold that one. Maybe there's a song there.
Well I can say we are getting re-charged and feeling the good stuff.
I guess aloha is what and where you make it. We are loving it right now. May you "festival" continue, as well.
{I hope this wasn't too frivolous a post for you.}
Take care, John
