Aloha fellow Slackers!
I’m pleased to tell you I’ll be performing this Saturday, August 9th at Ward Rafters (not Ward Warehouse shopping area), a performance hall in a private home in Honolulu (map/directions below). I’ll play originals and also some songs that have influenced me throughout my life. At this show, some of the songs will be kiho'alu.
Growing up by Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, we had only to look outside to feel our smallness in the face of nature. The mountains tower over 14,000 feet. My family would fall asleep at night listening to the calls of elk and coyotes. The winds there howl over 70mph routinely in the winter and would shake our entire house. Every summer, several tourists would be caught by the rapidly changing weather and, sadly, few survived. We had floods, avalanches, and snow in mid summer. We hiked, skied, camped and rode bicycles. We had 2 1/2 TV stations (3 at nighttime) so my brother and sister and I entertained ourselves playing music. The natural elements of our surroundings remain apparent in the music we play as a family. We lived in appreciation of our precariously vulnerable place among the immense forces of nature, its power, grandeur, and beauty.
Saturday’s show begins at 730pm and you are all encouraged to come early (doors open at 6pm) and bring your meal to enjoy at the venue. BYOB allowed too. “Donations” for the evening will be accepted by the proprietress at the door.
I’ll be joined on stage by Lisa Gomes, the extraordinary fiddler who appears on my new album. Lisa is a versatile musician and recording artist. She has performed throughout Europe and the United States and specializes in Celtic music. http://lisagomes.com/
