I didn't expect to experience such a "Hawaiian" event in the Midwest as the Windy City Uke Fest, held last weekend in Des Plaines (near Chicago). An active halau, lots of ukulele players, plenty of former Hawaii residents and a true appreciation of all things Hawaiian lent this event a very warm and friendly "feel." Playing late in the evening with Kimo Hussey, Keenan Kamae (yes, *that* Kamae family) and Lopaka Young was a special treat.
