Hi everyone, I'm Zack. I found this place because of Uncle Duke on youtube. My interest right now is mainly in slack key (though I do like to play Elvis songs in taropatch or dropped C). I used to (still can but don't) play the ukulele when I was younger. Uncle Led and Barry Flannagin (?) inspired me when I saw them (seperate times) on OC16's Hawaiian Classics which doesn't play anymore for some reason but now there's Pakele live so I suppose its a fair trade. Anyway I'm here for my interest and love of ki ho'alu. Sadly not many people my age play it so I can't really get together with people and jam (though I'm still waiting to meet Uncle Duke and Uncle Jay at Uncle Ozzie's house - whew lotta uncle's). I hope I can contribute as much as the rest of you to perpetuate slack key.
Aloha

Welcome, Zack. I am so happy you have discovered Duke and Jay on you tube. But crikey, you guys live the same island. Put that guitar in one gig bag, catch da Bus and go find them sweet bolo heads. Also, when Paul and I visited O`ahu, Paul was playing guitar outside the hotel and a young lad, Kimo, came up and joined him on `ukulele. Kimo goes St. Louis high school and Duke has Kimo's number. Kimo loves traditional Hawaiian music and said he cannot find many guys who want to play traditional kine with him. Try to meet up with Kimo. Maybe you young guys can get a band going or something lidat.
I am very impressed that you are taking lessons from Ozzie and that you have used those lessons well. Your music is spectacular, not even to mention for a young lad as yourself. You know Auntie always posts your videos on Sundays so everyone can watch you and hear your great music. Mahalo nui loa for perpetuating the music, for keeping it close to your heart. And e komo mai! |

Wow Aunty you and me post at almost the same time. I don't have a job yet, but I had over the summer the past two years. I'm just going to college right down my mountian UH West O'ahu. Yeah I have a girlfriend, I wrote (well made up since I don't write music) a song for her and it's on my youtube stuff. Kaleonahenahe is the title I gave it because that's her Hawaiian name and I felt like it described the song. Hope that answered your questions Aunty. Aloha Zack |

NOT. But what he really is too young for, is your daughter. |
