He told me it was given to him back in the 70's, and that it was not that expensive. He just loves it because it is like an old friend, and it has a nice bright sound.
You did hear that he got it back, right? He was here on the Big Island a couple weeks ago when he got the call...

I don't know if the guitar is this exact model, but it looks like this one - only in birdseye maple:
