Sorry, I should have been more specific. The Apogee Duet is a two channel digital interface (similar to a Digidesign M-box or other firewire interface). It's specifically designed for Macs (Logic and Garageband). It's priced around $500, but the rumblings have been that the sounds beats everything else in its price range. I'd love to hear from anyone who's tried it. Thanks! |

Haven't tried the Duet, but I have had quite a bit of experience with various Apogee converters in various studios over the years. They are uniformly excellent and a set of their ADCs and DACs on my permanent studio upgrade wish list.
A couple of online retailers offer a pretty generous exchange/refund period, so you could try one out and just be out the shipping charges if you didn't like it. My guess is you would.
Happy shopping! |

Thanks. I had seen the chatter on the Gearslutz forum. I think the converters and preamps in the Duet are the same as the Ensemble. Seems like the Duet would be great for recording fingerstyle/slack key acoustic guitar, particularly given the price. |

I have the Duet. This interface is the best interface I have ever owned. You can record at 96khz. It's very portable, very sleek, and very easy to use. I love it. |

I also ended up getting a Duet. I agree that it's the best interface in its price range. We just used it to record Ozzie Kotani's upcoming release and I think it sounded great.
Note: The Duet is designed for Macs. I don't think it works with PCs. |

you are right. You can only use it with macs. I use Logic Express 8 as the recording software. I love Logic. So easy to use and everything about it sounds great. |

mb75: How are the mic pre's in the Duet? I am saving my pennies for a Mac/Duet/Logic set up like yours. :) |

I used the Duet with just the pre's that it came with, and it sounds great. This is the best 2 channel interface I have ever had. I have also had the mbox for pro tools and also had an maudio, which isn't too bad either, but the converters in the Apogee Duet are second to none. |

thanks MB75. If you don't mind me picking your brain some more, how do you like working with Logic Express in comparison to Pro Tools? |

I love em both. Easy to work with, but Logics Midi sequencing is, in my opinion, better than pro tools' rewire. I don't like the rewire. Logics MIDI sequencing is all built within Logic. Pro Tools mbox that i have only records at max 48kHz. The Duet records at 24bit/96kHz, plus you can't g wrong with the world class A/D converters of Apogee. They both only have 2 inputs, but for what I do, that's all I need.
One of my friends taught Pro Tools, and when he learned everything Logic had to offer, he switched over to Logic. He now loves Logic with a passion.
The default plug-ins in Logic are better than Pro Tools' default plug-ins also. Everything about Logic even looks nicer.
I still like Pro Tools, but i can do everything in Logic, with better converters. |
