Have you thought about a different type of guitar-if you play steel string mostly, how about a nylon string guitar for a change? It's hard to get a sweeter sounding guitar for slack key, for my ears. I like both steel and nylon, but if you don't have one, then the other type would be a good choice as an alternate guitar.
Wood is a personal choice, but Cedar tops are said to have a warmer sound, Spruce more projection, and solid hard woods will usually have more sustain. Just a brief and simplistic overview-and playing one for yourself is the real answer.
I like the idea of Koa for a slack key guitar-can't get more Hawaiian than that! |
