Since we moved the Open Mic to the third Sunday of the month, participation has dwindled. It's time to stop, change days and/or find another venue.
Uncle Robert has a connection at the 4th Street Bowl The location is outstanding for access and parking. We can move to a Thursday night. Sunday is also available.
Please let me know what you think

Weekday nights increase the chances of my being able to attend.
I haven't been to the Bowl in a long time. Is there a place quiet enough to hear the music? I used to know a mgr. at the Island Grill, down the street. They have a nice bar area with a stage. During the week it doesn't get all that much business. Dog, you want me to check there?

Raymond,
The Island Grille is a very nice room also and just as accessible. That was one of the places I looked at before Mission. Depending on the traveling businessman crowd it can be wacky or calm any given night, but the 4th Street Bowl can be the same way. Please check into it.
thanx,

Dog, I spoke with the mgr at Island Gr. today -- problem is that he's leaving in two weeks, so he doesn't want to make a commitment which might get nixed by the next guy. He said to call in 2 weeks, because he can't see why the next guy wouldn't go for it - it's clearly a good deal for the house and fits right in the theme, etc.
As far as I could tell, the house doesn't have a pa system. (I forgot to ask) At 7:00 tonight, a Friday eve, there were about a dozen bar flies, many well under way of getting soused, getting a bit noisey. There was a guy playing acoustic guitar and singing, unamplified, but nobody paid attention to him. Come to think of it, after hearing 1 song, I didn't either. More than enough small tables to fit even our largest group. I didn't check to see if there was a drink minimum at the bar (we ate at the restaurant) but I looked at the bar food menu and it was pretty decent and not too overpriced. If we go there we should negotiate no minimum for our group. |

Dog,
Larry and I used to swing by the Mission on occasion, because it was on our commute route. When we spend 2.5 hours on the road each and every day during the week, we are loath to go most anywhere on the weekends if it involves "going over the hill". That's just because we need down time and rest time on weekends. Not to mention all the chores I need to do on Sat/Sun.
That is no dispersion on the "Open Mic", just a limitation on our human bodies...
GAAAHH, I hate growing old!
Aloha, Julie

Dog, Raymond, & Julie, I've moved out of the bay area and now live on the central coast (Nipomo, to be exact). Now that I'm gone, I really regret not attending the open mics when I could. I miss the aloha. I hope to see you all again soon. Rob |

Hi Dave,
I was able to make only one of the three Sunday open mics. I missed one because I was in Hawaii and the other one I missed because of a prior commitment. For the one that I did attend, there were only four of us performers and a sparse crowd.
I'm much younger than Julie and Larry , so the physicality of the commute is not the issue. For me, weeknights are more convenient because there are less family and Hawaii related events that can conflict.
I hope we can keep the open mics going. Even though I have to travel a long way to get there, the great entertainment, performance experience, spontaneity, and aloha spirit make it worthwhile for me. Mahalo for your leadership and support.
Aloha,
Doug |

Doug, I have quite a bit of family down this way. I also went to Cal Poly for my undergrad, and have always loved the central coast. It's pretty close to the beach too (Pismo & Avila). I retired in 2006 and decided to move closer and get rid of the Saratoga mortgage payment. Believe it or not, there was a question (answer) on a Jeopardy episode that said Nipomo had the best climate/weather in the U.S. It has been pretty nice so far. If you're ever in the area, give me a shout.

| Well back to the topic, I certainly want to see this energy continue. Now that there is football.... Sundays are tough. Rob, Nipomo sounds great. A day during the week works for me, so I'm easy. |

Mahalo for the input,
Sunday we can discuss this further. Uncle and I checked out 4th Street Bowl and Aloha Grill yesterday. I'm still looking for other possibilities.

Dog, What about the new uke shop in Jtown? I don't know if they have space but it's a logical match.
Want me to check with Valley Village? - Senior residence in Santa Clara, close to 17 and 280. Might get seniors as audience, probably not many other "drop ins." |
