I would like to purchase a wooden, tenor resonator uke. 1) Do you have any recommendations as to which one to purchase (and web site if available)? 2) Do you happen to know how a wooden tenor resonator uke compares to non-wooden tenor, resonator ukes, such as the highly recommended ones made by Beltona in New Zealand? Thanks. Richard
I recently picked up an amazing tenor resonator from Mya-Moe Ukulele-- a husband and wife team from Washington State. http://www.myamoeukuleles.com/
In fact I like it so much that I've agreed to endorse 'em. You can hear me playing it on YouTube-- check the topic "Uke-Tube" under the Uke Talk forum.
I've played a few other resonators, including the new Johnson metal bodied ukes and the Beltona. I've also played vintage old Nationals... yummy!
Although the Beltonas are quite nice in their own way, I like the mellower sound of the Mya-Moe wooden uke. And the cones are outstanding-- Gordon & Char get 'em from National.
Mine has a K&K biscuit pickup, which is flat out the best resonator pickup I have ever heard.
No, I do not have financial ties. I just like their resonator ukes.
Check 'em out. They have 'em in quite a few shops, too, so you may be able to play one. Or fall by my shack some day....
