This award goes to the producer(s) -- not the musician(s). Here's a list that includes those names. Awards will be given in February:
• "'Aumakua," Amy Hanaiali'i (Ua Records/Concord); • "'Ikena," Tia Carrere & Daniel Ho (Daniel Ho Creations); • "Force Of Nature," Led Kaapana & Mike Kaawa (Ledward Kaapana & Mike Kaawa); • "Hawaiian Slack Key Kings Masters Series Vol. II," Various Artists, Chris Lau & Milton Lau, producers (Rhythm And Roots Records); • "The Spirit Of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar," Various Artists, Daniel Ho, George Kahumoku Jr., Dennis Kamakahi, Paul Konwiser & Wayne Wong, producers (Daniel Ho Creations). |

Not accurate. It goes to the producer if the release is a compilation. The first three are not compilations, therefore if one of those three wins, the Grammy goes to the artist(s). If one of the last two (both compliations) win, then it goes to the producer(s). |

Hey...not bad for some taropatchers making it to the Grammys! I got called from the Lau's last night and we're (LT, Keale, Chris & Milton) flying to the event in February 2008. Keola is correct about the awards..as for our category...Chris & Milton is like family to LT, Keale and Myself. It was the Laus who help Walt and I get on the Presidential Inauguration gig. So, to be there with them in February would be awesome! Just to be at the Grammys as well as the Inauguration is just....honorable. |

Amen to that! Lots of TP'ers represented by these nominations - Don Kaulia, Daniel Ho, Pali Ka`aihue, Keoki Kahumoku, Herb Ohta Jr., Dennis Kamakahi, Stephen Inglis - and I'm sure to be missing some!
(Seattle connections with two of 'em as well.)
Congratulations to all the nominees. |

How do albums get considered for Grammys? Is it one of those "you have to know someone who knows someone...etc" type things?

You know, the album on which many of our TP `ohana appear may be the most under-rated of the bunch (Hawaiian Slack Key Kings Masters Series Vol. II) - yet I HIGHLY recommend it. There is a lot of amazing playing on that disc, by artists that you may find both familiar and un. Well worth the price of admission, and I hope its nomination means more folks will check it out. |
