After having such a great time on Kaua'i last year, we're going back. We'll be there from Jan.17 to Feb.12. So if anyone is planning to be there then and would like to get together to jam, let me know. It would be so great. Also, if anyone knows of anything special going on there musically at that time, your heads up would be most welcome. Thanks for any kokua.

You're in luck -- arriving just days before the start of our annual "E Kanikapila Kakou" series here on the island!
Come for one hour to learn new music from that week's featured musician(s), then stay for another 2 hours to kanikapila and sing along -- with plenty of local "jump up and hula", too. And it's free (donations accepted at door).
Every Monday night, 6pm to 9pm, from Jan 19 thru March 30, 2008 in the cafeteria at Island School in Puhi (behind Kaua`i Community College). Here's this year's schedule:
January 19 - O'Brian Eselu and Kenneth Makuakane
January 26 - Chanel Flores and Friends
February 2 - Peter Apo and Zanuck Lindsey
February 9 - Palani Vaughan and "King's Own"
February 16 - Nathan Aweau and Keale
February 23 - Kupaoa
March 2 - Na Kama
March 9 - Leilani Rivera Bond and Halau O Leilani
March 16 - Leokane Pryor and Friends
March 23 - Lopaka Bukoski, Kelly Love and Naniwai'ui Kanahele
March 30 - Gordon Mark and David Kamakahi

The last time we were there, Cindy Combs was at the Hanapepe Cafe on Friday night, Kirby Keough was at the Marriot on Monday and Tuesday nights, Pancho Graham was at the Lighthouse Bistro on Wednesday night.
We got to see the last performance of the Ko`olau Trio (Kenny Emmerson, Pancho Graham and Kirby Keough) at the Princeville Hotel Living Room last year. I don't know if Kenny is still on the island. He told me he was moving to the SF bay area.
We also saw Keli`i Kaneali`i (I forget the name of the restaurant).
Leilani Bond plays at the Seaview Terrace in the Hyatt in Po`ipu several nights during the week. She has a Keiki Hula show there on Tues.
Dennis Chun sings and plays slack key at the Hukilau Restaurant lounge, in Waipouli, on Friday evening.
Maybe Auntie Maria can fill in some details and bring us up to date. |

Mark, If you are near Bounty Music in Kapaa, stop and see if Greg Germano is still managing the place. He taught me a song last time i visited and likes to jam after hours at the store.

Karl -- Bounty Music closed earlier this year, and is now Kaua`i Music and Sound. Not sure who owns/manages it...: http://kauaimusicandsound.com/ |
