On hiatus since Na Kama's CD release party Dec. 11, Pakele Live! returns this week with yet another "do not miss!" CD release party!
Kenneth Makuakani will be celebrating the release of his latest CD, "The White Bathtub." Joining him for this very special evening will be fellow Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners and nominees (Kumu Hula) Obrian Eselu, Barry Flanagan (of HAPA), Stephen Inglis, and Walt Keale (of Kaukahi)!
A prolific songwriter and producer, some of you may be more familiar with Kenneth's work in those areas than with his solo musical career or his group Pandanus Club. He has produced over one hundred albums, working with artists such as Na Leo, HAPA, Amy Hanaiali'i, Raiatea, and many more. His songs have been recorded by the Brothers Cazimero, Na Leo (who hasn't heard their version of "I Miss You, My Hawai'i?" great story behind the writing of that one...), Kapena, Pandanus Club, Amy Hanaiali‘i, Loyal Garner and Gary Haleamau, as well as international artists from Japan. Kenneth has won at least 12 Na Hoku awards, and is very active with the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts (HARA).

(Coming up Jan. 15 on Pakele Live! - 2009 Grammy nominees Ledward Kaapana and Mike Kaawa!)
Aloha nui!

| Kenneth or Keola, if you are lurking -- what is the story behind the title of the album? A very interesting title, indeed. |

Kenneth told me that it's an homage to the white bathtub in his gramma's yard where -- in his small kid time -- all her grandkids were bathed. Get out into island "country", and you'll still find the old white cast iron tubs in yards today.
Wanda, did you listen to soundclips of the CD yet? |

Well, Auntie, I had not listened to the sound clips until you asked if I had. I know, I know. I have not sent my next installment to your retirement account for a month or so. I'll have to do so shortly. I was waiting to see what Santa would bring me as far as music goes. Now I have listened to Kenneths clip's on your web site, and it sounds like a very eclectic mix of some very personal stories in Kenneth's life. Listen here: http://www.mele.com/music/artist/kenneth+makuakane/the+white+bathtub+%2812-30-2008%29/
I sure would like to hear more. |
