Aloha all, In the latest issue of "Maui no ka oi Magazine" there's a small article on slack-key guitar. Here's the link if you wanna check it out:

Aloha Meghan,
Canada eh! I hope you are also a relative of Mike Weir, the new Masters Golf Champ. Lived in Canada for more than 20 years so I was cheering for Mike all the way. Welcome to the Taropatch ohana.I think you're the first member from Canada.
Do you have any Slack Key / Ukulele groups out there? I have a trip planned for Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Toronto this year. One would be sometime this April (in Vancouver) and the other would be in July. |

Aloha Ed,
There aren't any Slack Key/Ukulele groups (that I know of) where I live. I don't play Hawaiian music, but I do listen to it, as well as the local "Jawaiian" music.
Wow, you're coming to Winnipeg? That's where I live. Is your visit music-related? I'd love to hear some Hawaiian music up here! |

That's a Canadian (Quebec) Seagull 12 string in the photo. I happen to have one and the peghead is familiar. the other guitar is an Ovation

Aloha Meghan,
No, my Canada trip is not music-related. No can sing that's why. Only play instrumental slack key and ukulele. That's why I played classical guitar while living in Canada. My wife and I are visiting friends and my mother(who still lives there) this summer.
