I really looking forward to meeting and playing with anybody that will put up with me. I not one star just one mea paʻani that loves Hawaiian music. Shawn, the easiest way of getting a steel, is to get a cheap guitar, put a "Hawaiian extension nut" on it, and get the strings to get it into a C6 tuning (or if you want, you can get D'Addario Dobro strings, but they will put you into GBDGBD, not CEGACE which is way more cool. Slipry1 put me onto the C6 and he can get you the guages).

Eh, Shawn - you can get a passable Morrell 8 string for $250 or so from Elderly Instruments. I have one I used as a travel machine before I got the Jerry Byrd Frypan.
