One of the few spots in the islands that CONSISTENTLY provides a stellar lineup of talent every night, is Chai's Island Bistro (Aloha Tower Marketplace) in Honolulu.

Contrary to the common mis-conception, dinner purchase is not required to enjoy the music (but the food is ono!). Sit at the bar, order a drink, and nurse it all night. You can order from the pupu menu, too. Or sit outside and just listen.

Chai's website posts their entertainment calendar -- usually during the first week of each month. Check out this month's offerings:

BTW -- I'm not affiliated with Chai's. Just wanted to give Chai a plug for supporting island musicians so well, over the years.

I agree with everything Auntie Maria has said. My opinion, one of the best, if not THE best, restaurants I have ever eaten at. And the music! Oh my, up close and personal. We have met the Makaha Sons there, talked story, looked at each other's scars from heart surgery with Jon Koko. We have met and talked with Jerry Santos at great length. We had nice long talks with Barry Kimokeo over there, before and after the show, and during intermission he sat at our tabling, letting Paul take pictures of us together. We met Roland and Robert Cazimero there as well.

Chais is a beautiful restaurant. Situated in an easy to get to place (they'll stamp your parking ticket if you need).

Only thing, I think it says somewhere on yheir menu that you gotta spend a certain amount of $$$ on drinks if you are not eating. Oooh, but those giant tiger prawns, ono!

Wanda, that "minimum purchase" only applies to those who want to sit at a table.

Sit at the bar, and no one complains!
