I think that's from the unpublished sequel, Gilligan's Wake, is it not? |

That's definately not from The Clancy Brothers. Sounds like a Morpeth Rant of another stripe, me thinks. It's got a Ruth in it, maybe it's inspired by the Old Testament? Sure appears to be down on slide ukulele, though. Good thing me no read dat book. I'm bound to try a slide on any string instrument I play, sooner or later. Just cause enquiring minds want to know. That part about Mercy Miss Percy, is that from ZZTop? Tonight, it ain't right. I've got to have me a week. But I'll be back for you, Jack, and next time I'll let the machine speak. Paul |

You guys are too clever. I was just being facetious. I can't flip words with experts like yourselves.

Not a direct source per se, but there's at least one member of the forums at ukuleleunderground.com who plays slide ukulele. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

For a variety of reasons, you will get almost no volume and no sustain playing the short nylon strings with a slide.
This guy does a pretty good job (song starts around 0:45):

The guy in the video is playing a baritone (19" scale) in open tuning with two wound strings, so he does get some volume out of it and he's playing guitar music on a uke. He also hits it pretty hard.
