This week’s guests on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis are Grammy nominees (and Na Hoku Hanohano and Hawai’i Music Award winners) Don Kaulia, LT Smooth, and Chris Lau – with special guest Walt Keale!

Leon Toomata - LT Smooth – was born and raised in New Zealand, but now lives on the Big Island of Hawai’i. He’s been playing music professionally for over 10 years, and has traveled and played with various artists all over the world, including South Africa, Australia, Europe, and Asia. He released his first solo CD “Freedom” with Milton Lau and Chris Lau of Rhythm & Roots Records, and was part of the 2009 Grammy-nominated “Slack Key Kings Master Series Vol. II” album on the same label. He is currently working on his next album...

Donald Kailua was born and raised on O’ahu, and is the grandson of John Kaulia – who composed several songs for Queen Lili'uokalani, including 'E Liliu E.' Don was raised in Makaha with childhood friends Skippy & Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Del Beasley, and Walter Aipolani, all of whom became icons of modern Hawaiian music. Don was an original member of Players of Instruments, and appeared on three award-winning reggae albums. He has been featured on a number of slack key albums, including the Grammy-nominated “Slack Key Kings Master Series Vol. II.” He was also one of those honored with an invitation to perform at the Hawaii State Society Ball during President Obama’s inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C. (He performed with Walt Keale.)

Chris Lau, one of the driving forces behind Rhythm & Roots Records, a 2-time Grammy nominee and winner of a variety of music awards, might be more well-known as a music producer – but he also plays bass! Although he prefers to stay more in the background, Pakele Live! fans will recognize him from past performances with artists such as the always-popular Walt Keale. Speaking of whom...

...Walt is a member of the award-winning group Kaukahi. He also has a solo album out, entitled “Kahikina.” A nephew of the late Uncle Moe Keale, and cousin to Israel (Bruddah IZ) and Skippy Kamakawiwo’ole, Walt most definitely inherited the talent of his famous ohana! He has been the featured artist on Pakele Live! several times, and I always hear from people afterwards who tell me not only how much they love hearing him talk story (Walt’s a born teacher!), but also how much they love his vocals. Walt is currently working on a new solo album – something many people are looking forward to!

It's not pretty come Friday, but it's worth it. Thanks for posting the updates.
