Looks like a great lineup, as usual. All eyes will be on Kealaokamaile, of course - but I enjoy seeing the competition (again) between mother and daughter Dalire. I'd also love to see the Ai halau and Napua Greig. |

So many of the halau are from O`ahu. Also a good article in the Ka Wai Ola newspaper from OHA - its on line at their web site or can sign up for paper copy to be mailed to you.
Auntie Mapu's halau, Halau Mohala `Ilima will be there. They are pretty old fashioned, pretty traditional and pretty darn swell, such grace. And you check out their kahiko. I think they might be doing E Kuini Kapi`olani and I think Hula o Makee for `auana. At least back in February that is what they had planned. All the participating halau are so good, the costumes and lei so magnificent, so beautiful. Cannot wait to see the stuff ontop da you tube or streaming if can. |

Lucked out on my flight home from O`ahu Sunday morning, with sweet (and handsome!) Keoni Souza as the flight attendant. FYI, he's the new member of Na Palapalai (joining original members Kuana Torres and Kehau Tamure).
His girlfriend dances for Keawe & Tracie Farias-Lopes -- so of course, Na Palapalai will be their band. Keoni shared with me that the halau and the band traveled by boat to Ni`ihau to perform "Nani Ni`ihau" -- which we'll see in their group `auana performance.
Uiha!!
Konabob: can't make it to MM this year...but next year, mebbe. |

What a great year - and to not be there? Aue! The conference that took me to Honolulu just in time to escape for a weekend getaway to Merrie Monarch last year takes me instead to Hollywood this year!
At least I have three hours less time difference to try to catch this on the web. :)
Indeed, all eyes will be on Kealaokamaile, but the infusion of all of this new blood will be a delight! As ever, my money is on Halau Na Mamo O Pu`uanahulu, but I would be lying if I didn't say I loved them all.

Some years back when I first met Don Narup, I got to see Sheldeen Haleamau's halau dance at the concert that Don promoted (Patrick Landeza, Dnnis Kamakahi, Cyril Pahinui and Gary Haleamau). They are definitely talented ladies, and just think what music Sheldeen gets played for her ladies to dance to -- one of the best Hawaiian guitar players on earth with a voice that would blow you away. His leo ki`eki`e is unbelievable. |
