Hey Wanda, you found us, we thought we were keeping a low profile..That video of a bit of Blue Hawaii and then the full version of the Jules ah See arrangement of Sand is from someone's hand-held camera. We WILL be posting more from the show, we played 2 half hour spots. More about the Lei of Emeralds show HERE
Equally if not More important to us is the appearance at the Tong Tong Fair. Thanks to our newly found international friends and contacts, Pat and myself have been honoured to be invited and requested to play (as the Waikiki Islanders) at the Tong Tong Fair, at the Pasar Malam in Den Haag, May 25 AND 26. I've also been booked to give a workshop/seminar on Hawaiian Guitar.
The Tong Tong Fair in The Hague is the biggest Eurasian fair in the world. In 2008 it was held for the 50th time - a golden jubilee, with 133,000 visitors! Click HERE for the web site
It's part, and only part of the even bigger Pasar Malam Besar. Click HERE for the web site
What's special as far as Pat and myself are concerned is that the protocol is that USUALLY only Eurasian/Indonesian musicians and artists are booked to play, we understand from Gerrit Venema that this move is most unusual, he says we should be honoured, and we are for sure..
So it was the Lei of Emeralds with our dear friends Rene, Nora, Jan and all, on the May 5th and then home for gigs, and then BACK to Den Haag for the fair.. (Thank God for bio diesel and 55mpg)
Bob Brozman is also appearing there, his web site will have the dates and actual venue.
As for us, we are at the Bintang Theatre at 20:00 'till 21:00 on the 25th and the Tong Tong Podium at 11:15 'till 12:15 on the 26th. I will then be conducting an Hawaiian Guitar workshop in the De Bengkel from 16:30 'till 17:45. . |

Of some interest is the website of the Dutch Dance Group "Hawaiian Treasure" The translation of their Dutch bio has been done (Methinks) by a somewhat distraught computer.. It reads :-
quote: The beginning of Hawaiian Treasure.
Hawaiian Treasure have been set up in 1984, and stand under control of Regina Butteling. She has choreography, training, costumes and arrangements under charge. The group has started with indonesian dancing under the name Mata Hari and that has later combined with Polynesische dances (among which hawaiian dancing) under the name Hawaiian Treasure.
The group exists out of eight dancers, 4 girls and 4 guys. One of them, Bernard Tunui, direct from the South Pacific the one and only Tahitian from origin. Before he came to the Netherlands he was a professional dancer on Tahiti and later he experienced a complete tour Europe. With his wide experience and knowledge Bernard have learned Hawaiian Treasure the Tahitiaanse dancing culture. The dancers perform dances like the Hula from Hawaii & other islands such as Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand & more. Captivating, striking and impressive show!
Hawaiian Treasure act in the Netherlands and also abroad. The group tries the love and warmth which carries with Polynesian the culture in itself to transmit on public and them just as of that culture tests to leave! The dancing portray all aspects of the cycle of living. This both men and women are practised jointly or individually. The dancing group act and performances on a high level, by their experience and separate always renewing style, Tahitiaanse the dancing are notable by their strength and charm, their symbolic movements and their splendid furnishing ensure they a splashing show on the Pasar Malams and a lot of other events. You will be surprised agreeably at seeing their vertebrate shows. A visit to of the Pasar Malams or events which will unforgettable and more than worth.
Some interesting adjectives there !
