Don't know if this has been posted before; I just learned about it from Sam Ohu Gon.
Take a look at this wonderful Dutch documentary from 1916 about the Hamakua Railroad, plus views of Hilo, fishing & surfing.

Wow Mark, That is some amazing video. Thanks for posting.
This might be the railroad shown in the film. Yikes.

So the translations are:
1. The Hawaiian Islands in Birdflight 2. These islands belong to the Sandwich Islands. The landscape is very mountainus 3. A trip on the Hilo Rail 4. The natives fishing with the help of thrownets 5. Types (of people) of Hawai'i 6. With a speed of 35 kilometers per hour through the surf
Fun clip to watch! And was that Coconut Island in Hilo Bay?

Its a swell film, but frankly, the music was not to my liking at all.
Thanks for the translations, Julie. I could pick out a word here or there because it seemed similar to German. |

"Jooga Woga Joogie Woga Joogie Eeeeeeeee!"
Awesome Hawaiian Lyrics...probably full of wisdom and hidden meaning. If someone could translate it I am sure we would all benefit. |

Thanks for the translations of the titles, Julie.
I love the fishing clip. Bare feet on lava, and then a rough water landing on rocks. Man, that guy is tough!
Great surfing clip, too. Big flat bottom boards without fins rule! Anyone recognize the beach?
I think the lyrics translate as "I am a peaceful man, from the land of the palm trees...."

The closing frames of this wonderful film show Waikiki Beach circa 1915-1916. The surf break is called "Queens." This surf spot was named after Queen Lili‘uokalani who had property fronting the break. Today the location would be marked by the Waikiki Police station. It is between Uluniu street and Lili‘uokalani road. In the background you can see Helumoa an ancient coconut grove that once covered the entire Waikiki area. You can also see the old Moana Hotel and Seaside Hotel. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel (the "Pink Palace") now occupies the area where the Seaside was located. The old Outrigger Canoe Club was situated between these two old hotels before relocating to the Elks Club property at Diamond Head.
I believe the film score is recent and it is European. It was probably done by some Dutch Musicians. Hawaiian music was very big in Holland. When I was younger did a month long gig there.
