I just added the TaroPatch.net picks from our poll results to the above Honolulu Advertiser article. Even though there were not a lot of votes, it was still interesting to see the "people's choice". Naturally, there was a leaning towards slack key in our forum's voting. |

Does anyone know why certain categories are labeled "Albums of the Year" when only CDs are produced? Should'nt it be for example: "Jazz CD of the year" instead of "Jazz album of the year" or are the competitors required to produce a record album? Just wondering...mahalos |

Actually, the word "album" simply refers to a collection of related items. In this case it refers to a collection of songs. The term "record album" would refer specifically to an LP. |

Re: "album"--The term actually goes back to 78s. Single records were collected into albums--like photo albums. Sets of records were also released in album packaging (first time in 1936)--this was the only way you could issue a longer work such as a concerto or symphony. The usage seems to have continued when LPs were introduced in the late 1940s, even though there was only one record in a sleeve rather than a book-format package.
