Aloha kakou!! This is Bwop, one of the multitudes who has been inspired and touched by George Kahumolu's teachings while he's been off island living in Santa Cruz. I'm trying to put together a makana for him of a book of thanks, memories and funny stories from all of us mainland-challanged folk who have benefited so much from his time here. If you have something to offer- some thank you, story or good wish, please e-mail me (bwop @ worldnet.att.net) so I may include it in da puke. (I plan to give it to him sometime in August). P.S. This is my first post (i'm sort of computor naive)- hope it's working. And if it is, big ALOHA to all of you friends I know and all you friends I haven't met yet! Bwop

Hey Bwop, welcome to the `ohana! You've done an outstanding job for someone who claims to be computer naive, although you did misspell "computer"! However, that inspired me to coin the term "computador", a cross between "computer" and "matador", which I define as anyone whose job it is to fight all the bull that comes from using a computer. (It's the end of the day and I'm getting punchy.)
Anyway, my interaction with George has been limited to one mail correspondence, so I'm not much of a candidate for your makana. I think you'll find lots of others here who will be eager contributors though. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

Bwop,
Cynthia and I may have some stuff to contribute, are pictures OK?
What exactly comprises a makana?

Makana = gift, no? My question also, are pictures okay? Have a digital photo, I'd like to include if possible. |

Say, I want to chime in on George here. I've taken several beginning lessons from him, and although he seems to go quickly, I like his style of teaching. At the end of the class he plays a song with us, and gives us a sense of accomplishment! HEY, I played a song with George! Yippee! Now if I only had the time to practice everyday... When my Halau Hula has danced with George, he helps us along with providing the kahea, and it's truly a pleasure performing with him. So BWOP, I will look through my photos to see if I have a good one of him. He's usually on the go unless he's eating. See you on Maui! Just a few more days! Aloha, Julie |
