i usually play using a six string, but i've also tried slacking my 12 string down to taro patch and playing that. my early attempts were terrible sounding! i would often pick the higher string (both closer to me and higher in pitch) of the paired strings more loudly, and so lose some of the power you get from a walking bass line. i've adjusted by brushing more (i use alaska finger picks and a zookie), but it still often sounds out of balance. it lacks the crispness that i get with my six string (and that good players seem to get out of their 12 strings).

are there any techniques anyone can suggest, or should i just keep trying to tune my 12s technique by trial and error?

aloha,
keith
