George Kuo
Aloha No Na Kupuna "Love for the Elders"

For those who appreciate solo slack key guitar instrumentals played in the old style, this album is for you. In the liner notes, George explains, "My feeling is in the playing from the 1940s. I like to play a nice relaxed, easy style. Not too much fancy stuff, keep it within the melody. It's more delivering a message than playing runs."

On this CD, winner of the 2002 Na Hoku Hanohano Ki Ho'alu Award, George performs in 5 tunings:
  • Taro Patch – Waikiki Hula Medley, KHBC, Aia I Ka Maui Medley, Wai O Ke Aniani & `Ahulili, Lullaby Chimes
  • C Wahine (DGDF#BD) – Old Paniolo
  • Leonard's C (CGDGBD) – Medley: Wai`alae & Koni Au I Ka Wai, Honesakala
  • C Wahine "Hi`ilawe" (CGEGBE) – Golf Swing
  • C Mauna Loa (CGEGAE) – Manu Kapalulu, He Inoa No Ka`iulani, Aloha Chant, Mauna Loa Blues
Although George often performs with ensembles like Hui Aloha (Dennis Kamakahi, David Kamakahi, Martin Pahinui) or with Martin Pahinui and Aaron Mahi, this CD showcases George's skills as a solo performer. Some really great, nahenahe, stuff.
