Wow, you guys are going to be in for a treat tonight at Freight & Salvage and Sunday's Hawaiian Music and Cultural Summit in Folsom. I attended the event at The Cue last night, and it was 4 hours of great and varied music from very talented artists. The lineup (if my memory serves me well):
(1) Faith Ako solo (2) Waipuna (with David Kamakahi on uke) (3) Kawika Kahiapo solo (4) Keale with LT Smooth, Bill Griffin and Chris Lau (5) Steve Inglis solo and one slackin' Bob Dylan song with LT, Bill and Chris (6) LT Smooth with Chris, and then Bill joined them for a smokin' new original, untitled, "slack grass" (slack key/bluegrass) song. FYI, all night Bill played a koa "mandolele"--his 'ukulele/mandolin invention with 4 nylon strings in a mandolin tuning--unique and beautiful sound. (7) Dennis Kamakahi and Steve Inglis
The only guy who neva play was Patrick, but we'll excuse him cause he cooked the food (the poke was ono!).
By the way, I don't know if this had anything to do with the incredible and entertaining music, but backstage at The Cue is the parking lot, and there seemed to be a pipeline of unknown beverages in red cups disappearing from the bar to the parking lot.
Hey Andy, Kawika says "Hi," and complimented you for creating this wonderful forum that supports Hawaiian music. Couldn't agree more.
Aloha, Doug |
