This week on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis we’re hosting a CD release party for Starr Kalahiki and her new album “Salt.”

Starr has been singing for as long as she can remember. Born the daughter of a Pentecostal minister, the musical fellowship she received on a weekly basis was an incomparable education. Add to that her father's collection of jazz and bossa nova LP's and that's where her story begins...

At 16 at the University Lab School, choral director Nola Nahulu literally acquainted Starr with her own voice and had her audition for the Hawaii Opera Theatre chorus. Starr sang in six operas with HOT, performed the role of the fairy godmother in Diamond Head Theatre's "Cinderella," performed in various shows at Leeward Community College, then got a job working with the phenomenally talented cast of "'Ulalena" on Maui. She returned to Honolulu in 2004 and fronted the modern alternative rock band "Missing Dave" for a year before securing a gig as the jazz headliner on the Star of Honolulu dinner cruise. At the same time, Starr continued to develop her craft was a member of the R&B group "Eight-o-eight" as well as funk band "Toyz of Pleasure." About two years ago she finally met her "musical accomplice" and accompanist Kit Ebersbach (Don Tiki) and is now singing only the music her heart truly wants to sing... and what a gift!

Starr will be joined by Nā Hōkū Award winner Kit Ebersbach, Dean Taba and more... (And pssst! Word has it she may do a special song with lyrics by the Nā Hōkū Award-winning songwriter, Kumu Hula, and Hawaiian language expert, Puakea Nogelmeier. I've heard it, and you really don't want to miss it...)

Please join host Tony Solis as we welcome Starr to the Pakele Live! stage on Thursday, October 20 from 6:30-8:30p.m. HST at the Willows Restaurant (901 Hausten St., Honolulu). Those who are unable to attend can watch the live stream at www.pakelelive.com. (The show will also be edited for television and shown at a later date on OC16 TV and www.oc16.tv)

Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Doors open at 5:30.) Guests may choose from the full nightly buffet ($34.95) or an a la carte menu created especially for Pakele Live! (and available only during the show), with prices ranging from $5 to $16. Drink specials are also available. Validated valet parking is only $3.
