I'm used to my steel string dreadnought, but wanted to try a nylon string classical guitar, cause I like the mellow sound sometimes. However, the fretboard's too fat for what I'm used to playing and it meets the body at the 12th fret, making it difficult to reach up for those high notes.
So I've been looking at a couple of instruments marketed as "crossovers": Yamaha NTX series and Takamine ETN series. The fretboard is only 48 mm wide and meets the body at the 14th fret, plus there's a cutaway. Much friendlier to my fingers. The bodies of both are pretty thin (80-90 mm or so).
Does anyone here have any experience with these or similar instruments?

I have limited experience with those models, having only played them occasionally in music stores. You don't see hyrbid nylon string guitars all that often.
I have a Taylor NS34ce, cutaway nylon string guitar. The fretboarad is 1-7/8" which is a little wider than my steel string guitars, but narrower than a regular classical. I like the feel and the sound, although I don't play it much. You might look at the Taylor NS24, which is a new "budget" version of their nylon string.

I play on regular sized classical necks (52mm/2.06") but I have tried the Ibanez aeg10ne and it seemed to be a decent well made guitar. I actually bought one but returned it because I wanted wider. I think it also has a slightly shallow body.

Steel string guitars tend to be metalic and twangy so I use nylon wherever it makes sense to my ears. |

My custom Lake, Halia Aloha O Kaupoa has a width of 1-7/8" and 13 to the body. I also have relatively short fingers and wanted a thinner neck to make an easier barre at the 7th. It works quite well, but if I could change anything on this beautiful instrument the neck would be a bit wider.
Unless my fingering is spot on there can be a slight buzz when an adjacent string is plucked. Then again, this situation has motivated me to play cleaner .
