Earlier this month I posted info on the Ho’olupa Hawaiian Film Series at The Cue in Concord and also at Sacramento City College. Unfortunately, the series has been cancelled. However, Ho’olupa has other things in the works, including the upcoming Hawaiian language classes taught by Kellen Paik, who has a master's degree in Hawaiian Language Studies from UH and is one half of the duet Kupaoa, which won a Na Hoku Hanohano award for Haku Mele.
Check out Ho’olupa’s website for upcoming events, including the Hawaiian language classes, as well as some interesting videos, e.g., a wonderful interview with Uncle Raymond Kane’s sister, Aunty Aileen Perry: http://www.hoolupa.org/Home_Page.html .
Here's Ho'olupa's mission: Ho`olupa Hawaiian Culture Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks to preserve, promote, and perpetuate Hawaiian culture through music and educational programs, activities, research, and publications. As the name indicates, Ho`olupa's mission is to help Hawaiian culture to flourish.
Aloha, Doug
