A while back, we had a discussion on video players able to slow down a video or other music files, for easier learning. That triggered me to search for options. I found most players and software were made primarily for speeding up recording, even they had capability to slow down as well, to a degree.

However, even though the pitch didn't alter (theoretically) by slowing down, the sound quality went bad and clipping. This to a degree I found it hard to get an impression of the music, and that's the whole idea by learning by ear?

I found the following, - a program named Transcribe http://www.seventhstring.com/ in England. Transcription Software are primarily made for transcription of text, options of using pedals for stop / start / rewind etc. So now also for music. Takes in all kind of video and music files. I download and convert the Youtube videos to MP4. It has a perfect sync. between sound / video and can be slowed down to as much as 25% without distortion of the sound. (For me, I found that slowing down further than 70% is not very useful, maybe sometimes 50%)

The software shows suggestions for both notes and chords. The pitch can be altered etc. Now I have not tried it with pedals, but just a hit on the spacebar pause the playing, and an other hit returns the cursor to a preset point.

To me, this is ideal for learning. It is not free, but reasonable priced, about the same as a songbook. The company has a generous trial period of a month, so plenty of possibility to learn to know the thing before baying.

I though I'd just shear this with you all, - and well just for the sake of good order, I have absolutely no interest in the company and the product what so ever Just liked it.

I find myself using this more and more. Not that I've put the song books away, but ... nearly
